How to make sure the Num Lock key stays on during System Boot up

Labels:

Here are some simple guidelines on how to enable Num Lock to be on by default in the BIOS. You must enable the ‘Boot Up Num Lock’ and ‘USB Legacy Support’ options in the BIOS. Note that the names for these options may vary slightly depending on the BIOS of your motherboard. Please refer to your motherboard documentation or contact your computer manufacturer on how to do this.

If that does not work, you must edit the Windows Registry to enable this option.
WARNING: Using the Registry Editor incorrectly may cause symptoms requiring a reinstallation of Windows. Use the Registry Editor at your own discretion. Make a backup copy of the Registry before making any changes to the registry

Please follow the instructions below:
1. Run Registry Editor (Click START > RUN > in the dialog box type either "regedit" or "regedt32" without the quotes and press OK).

2. Navigate to HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard

3. Change the value for "InitialKeyboardIndicators" from 0 to 2. Right click on "InitialKeyboardIndicators" and select Modify. In the "Edit String" dialog box, change "Value data:" to 2 then click OK.

4. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard

5. Change "InitialKeyboardIndicators" from 0 to 2. Right click on "InitialKeyboardIndicators" and select Modify. In the "Edit String" dialog box, change "Value data:" to 2 then click OK.

6. Close the Registry Editor and restart the computer.

Repeat steps 4-5 logged-in as other users if needed.
